Hi, I have a Flash unit that fails startup diagnostics with Base Alarm 01E: Corrupt program ROM. Halt.

Is the rom is on the mainboard or is it part of the PCMCIA feature card.

If it's not on the PCMCIA card, can anyone suggest a repair depot in Western Canada, hopefully BC.

Thanks
Doug

Doug,

Have you done a complete reinstall on the unit; totally reseting the programming?
There is NO BC repair facility.

I've power cycled it with the Feature card both in and out. With my laptop connected, the first thing I see when applying the power with the feature card in is the message below.

Nortel Norstar Flash Diagnostics Started. Please wait.

NVRam Test: Passed
B84 Test: Passed
Program ROM: Failed. Alarm Code: 01E

Base Alarm 01E: Corrupt program ROM. Halt.

They had a couple of power outages last weekend and I think the noisey power did it in...

replace the pcmcia card. if you are lucky all mailbox programming will still be intact. With the flash voicemail you can go down in software as well as up (ie current flash software 2.0.10 you can go down to 1.9 and still maintain mailbox programming)

WC, you got it!

Doug, you can order another card from 911 Communication supply in Calgary. 1800 665 9911

WC: I have not found that to be true. I know for a fact if you go from 2.0 to 1.7 it defaults the Flash. I use that trick when I get a Flash that is hosed up internally. This trick wipes out everything and set it to factory default. Then I put the 2.0 in and it starts from scratch, but clean.

I'll stand corrected. but I have thought I have done that *scratching head*.... (2.0.10 to 1.7)*mumbling* maybe it was a 1.9 to 1.7. What I think needs to be done though is an experiment of sorts. taking a flash 2.0.10 and down grading to 1.9, then upgrading again to 2.0.10 then downgrading to 1.7 ,1.5, 1.46, 1.44, 1.36, 1.28 (if anyone still has them...)Then start all over again with the 1.9....... Maybe you can only go down one and not two before defaulting programming. maybe only 1.9 can be downgraded. You can take (some of) them down in software, maybe only one step, but you can do it, as I have done it. I have not stepped through every combination though...

rhowlett:
the only other thought on the flash losing programming on downgrade would be compatability with the telephone system you are connected to. ie. flash 1.7 would not be compatable with mics 5.0.
what would happen with the flash then, I don't know.......

When the flash is too low for the KSU very little to nothing happens. You can see it in maintenance sometimes the feature codes seem to be there but often you can't log in or anything else.

You may have something on the 1 version down thing. I have only done the 2.0 to 1.7 and 2.0 to 1.4 downgrades, both of which reset the database to factory default. I have also done a 1.4 to 2.0 and it upgraded fine. If I ever get some free time, I will tinker with my test Flash and various MICS software versions.
