can you use actionscript to read if a user already has a file "my.swf" in the browsers cache?

kinda like reading a cookie? but I'm looking for a specific file name?

any ideas

In normal conditions, for security reasons... Don't think so!
Might be possible with javascript, but certainely with difficulty from the Flash movie itself.
Anyways, when the file is in the user's cache, it usually has something appended to it's name, thus you would need to in fact target that "new" name!

thanks,

I'll look into the javascript idea.

my plan was to pull a logo from the users browsers cache in a header for a newsletter, but only if it was in the cache, else do nothing "no logo"

I have a bunch of users who get a newsletter monthly and wanted to add a custom logo based on their organization.

I could place a could by asking them who they are first, but we didn't want to do that.

I was going to send them an swf in a email, "that would be placed in cache". Then next mothh look for that swf.

thanks for the advice.
