i have developed a site in flash and am about to put it on the net. I have read that search engines cant index flash sites (true??) if so how do i go about indexing my site so that i can attain a high ranking on the search engines??
Thanks in advance

Hi mate,

This is the words from the movie here.

The above would be shown to any user who had javascript disabled, this also includes search engines.

Just a few things to consider -

1) Don't add all the text from the movie to the one page, that would be considered spamming, you should only really have the text that appears on a single page of the flash site.

2) Don't add different text to this tag than appears in the movie, this is also considered spamming.

Hope this helps Wullie

Hi mate,

You are doing things wrong.

Firstly, the tag that I posted above appears in the HTML content of the page.

Secondly, you are linking directly to the swf file, which means that any user who does not have flash installed, will get a download prompt for the movie, you should be linking to an HTML page that has the flash embedded in it.

The current way you have it, a search engine will read no further than your home page. This is due to the fact that search engines cant open pop-ups like a browser, and they cannot read flash files.

Hope this helps Wullie

okay, i understand it now, thanks heap wullie, uve been a great help.

Take heart, there is hope for flash and search engines. FAST Search, which is the search engine powering AlltheWeb.com and Lycos, recently announced that it is indexing sites using Flash. Google is another search engine that can, at least partially, index Flash sites.

If your going to use Flash, for the time being, a site built in HTML, with Flash
movies placed inside of the HTML documents, can provide a strong visual impact and also garnish a decent ranking.
