I'm curious about other people's experiences with non-Cisco Flash and RAM upgrades. Has anyone used Flash or SDRAM from someone other than Cisco, like Kingston? Have you had any problems?

I'm looking at upgrading some lowend routers and I don't want to spend $$$ on Cisco RAM/Flash.

They work fine, but unless they're registered you will void your warranty. I use Crucial products.

Thanks. What do you mean by registered? The company from whom I purchase the upgrades will need to be registered with Cisco? Or, I need to call Cisco and tell them I'm upgrading with another company's RAM chips?

Registered means that Cisco has evaluated the memory and has approved of its use in Cisco equipment. The process is so expensive that registered after-market memeory is about as expensive as the OEM stuff.

I've personally upgraded routers with 16mb transcend ram purchased from ebay. No problem
