Using Flash 5, I finally got a little flash animation done, and I published it, which apparently creates an html document with all the embedding tags you need, etc.

Now if i click on it locally and open it in my browswer from my c drive, I can see my flash animation just fine.

However, if I put the html file on my test webserver and use http to access it like so:

it just hangs there. What am I missing? - Is there something special you have to do to have your web server support flash? I'm using IIS5.0

As you can probaly tell, I'm a newbie, I checked FAQ's but didn't see anything on the topic

thanks!

Check your Publish Settings under File, under the html tab, if the "Paused At Start" box is checked or unchecked? Uncheck it and test your movie through this new published html.

adam -

sorry for the confusion, that isn't really supposed to be a link, only an example of how I'm accessing the page.

oldnewbie -

I looked, and that box is unchecked. Still no dice. It seems that the page never fully loads, it just gets stuck about 20%. The file size of the flash program is only 11k, so I just don't get it.

Can you post the actual link? Or better a link to your .fla, zipped up and in MX only format.

OK, before I post the link or the fla file - here's something: - You will note that my overall understanding of flash is pretty limited.

I noticed that the file will run only within the directory in which i created my fla file. If I move it outside, it won't run.

I exported it as a swf file and then used dreamweaver to create the html to insert it into an html file.

I also noticed that you can insert it as a shockwave file or a flash file - what's the difference?

If i try to insert it as a shockwave file, then when I call it up, I get a message that shockwave is installing, then an error that it could not connect to the server (probably due to a company firewall) - but I don't understand this, since I have been able to view many other flash sites on the web.

what gives?

You should first try the html that Flash can output for your movie, rather than one from DW.

Under File->Publish Settings, Publish the htlm and check to see if it works that way.

If not guess you'll have to post a link to your .fla, or e-mail it to me. You can hit my handle above for my address.

ok - silly me - I guess the shockwave file has to reside in the directory on the server with the file that it references it.

I thought that once it was embedded in the html file it was always there.

now it seems to work.
