Flash MX

Is Flash MX the next version up from Flash 5, or some special version.

If it is the next version after 5, cannot I upgrade to it from Flash 4.0?

Yes! It's the next generation! But don't think you can upgrade from Flash 4... Although you could check with Macromedia!

You can check Macromedia's web site, they say that there is someting new in the creation of Actionscripts and cascading layers.

It's the next version up from 5. They didn't name it Flash 6 because this year is the anniversary of Macromedia's founding. So, they named it MX (the M stands for Macromedia, the X stands for the Roman numeral for ten, meaning their tenth anniversary. Cute, eh?)

And of course the naming was nothing to do with:

Windows XP instead of Windows 2002
Athlon XP's instead of Athlon 1.5777MHz et al
Apple OS X instead of whatever (?)
X-BOX instead of 'Just another gaming machine'
etc, etc
