Hi guys,
please forgive my ignorence.I am new to Flash and Dreamweaver and I am teaching myself.I import the swf into Dreamweaver and save as html.Transfer to my web server.Click on the link to the site, the page starts to open
but never finishes.Stops at about 70 %(only blank screen though, you cannot see anything)and does not complete the download. What do I need to do to the Flash movie to get it to open on the site.It runs fine in Dreamweavers i.e preview mode but does nothing on the site.

(thanks for any suggestions)

Don't know anything about Dreamweaver... Flash does allow you to publish an embedded player in html... Have you tried that?
Post the url of your site so we can have a look at it. Also post the name of your .swf file.

;-)

<center><a href=&quot;</center>

the site is homestead.i'm using it for now while i am learning.i'm not sure if the the swf file name is what you need but it is Movie 1.swf.i created the flash movie sent it to dreamweaver to save as html because homestead only allows certain files formats to be imported, and unfortunatly flash it not one of them.the html file name imported into homestead is intro.html ..
(you said something about flash has a html embedded player?what is that and what does it do)

all of your help is greatly appreciated

Yeah! Not much happenin'!
Ok! A lot of questions here!
PC or MAC?
Use Netscape or Explorer?
What version of Flash, 4 or 5?
Did you make this movie entitled movie1.swf?
Did you upload it to the server?
If it ain't on the server... we won't be able to see it!
Looking at the source html... you seem to be linking back to your own computer!

;-)

1.pc
2.explorer
3.flash 5
4.yes i made the movie.
5.can't upload a swf file to the server.only gif,jpeg,html
allowed.that is why i sent the swf to dreamweaver to save it as an html file.
6.if you like i will send you the file!
7.i will check the link to make sure it is directed to the right place.
(once again thank you for all your help)

I tried joining your host... And I must say it's the most confusing one I've seen to date! You should try or , that offer more free storage and easiness of use. You can upload flash files!
... Which seems to be your problem! Until you upload that swf to your host, you'll never be able to see it. In your intro.html this line:
<param name=movie value=&quot;../../../Program%20Files/Macromedia/Dreamweaver%204/Tutorial/Compass_Site/Movie1.swf&quot;>
points to your computer.

It should be something like:
<param name=movie value=&quot;
You should at least change that... But you got to get that file on that server or another one.

Going back to the Superbowl!

;-)

will do that. yeh i know that homestead is bad, but it served it's purpose while i was learning. thank you for all your advice. much appreciated. i wanted to see what the movie ran like on the web before i went and paid for a site of my own, but i guess i will just do that and figure it out as i go. you guys on this help site are awesome. much appreciated.

The hosts I mentioned in my previous post are free and offer 50MB &amp; 100MB of storage. Of course you do have to live with the banners... Not free for nothing. In that sense Fortunecity is better, because you can close the banner window!
Have a look!

;-)

hi

(hi old, been a while!!!)

On the subject of freebie hosts, the best I've found so far is &quot;Freedom to Surf&quot;,
They allow ASP, PHP, CGI, SQL, the lot, and they're free. They also allow easy FTP upload. No banners whatsoever and you get a url like
Nae too bad!! davdesign@hotmail.com

Well! If you're back dD... I can leave this forum in peace!

;-)

PS: Thanks for the host tip... Will try it! But it's only 20MB!

yeah, the wanderer returns.

I know what you're saying about the 20mB thing, but it's all the code allowances they have which impressed me. When you run out of space you can just keep you're CGI, PHP stuff in there and link to other hosts.

Can I ask you a favour, I was reluctant to post this cos I don't like people posting for tests in here. But can you check the download time for Movie2 in the animation section of using Netscape (if it works at all!!). Trying to ween some v. important business and need to issue this info page pronto! The reason I've been away is cos I had a massive upgrade to my system and it collapsed straight away!! So I'm working through the software installations one-by-one and can't find my Netscape stuff anywhere!

Not that I'm needed here anymore anyway, are you sure your old ticker can handle the pace that your fingers have been tapping the keyboard in my absence?!!! LOL

Cheers mate...

ps: e-mail in post, non-flash related question

DaMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM connection! Just kicked me off once again!

Took me roughly 8 minutes to download with NS &amp; with my 56K connection, presently connected at 42.667 bps., 1.00 am here in Montréal! Seems to be workin' fine! Guess you'll have to add one of those &quot;load time&quot; thingy in front of it!
Haven't you thought of using streamed files for the same purpose? Reminds me I'm still stuck with my problems with those. I switched to WM files, but having the same problems. Although a popup player will download the file before it plays, the embedded player will try to stream the files and I have to live with the breaks and rebufferings!
Oh! Well! Some testing tomorrow!
I'm going to bed! Catch you in the morning!

;-)

PS: Was this test just to make me feel usefull?

cheers mate

goodnight......just left 6am here, the wife's getting her tea-n-toast made for breakfast as I type!!!

Talk tomorrow....
