Hello

I have recently bought a Flash site and am in the process of trying to customise it.

I have four folders altogether which I unzipped from the vendor: fla, fonts, psd, and swf&html.

I have copied and pasted the fonts into my fonts folder (in Windows).

In the psd folder, I have a number of Photoshop images - several of them over 1000Kb. I do not seem to be able to edit/customise these images - they seem to be 'locked' in some way.

I prefer to work with JPEGS and have loaded all the images into Photoshop and saved them as JPEGS and they are a fraction of the PSD images I unzipped from the vendor.

I have a couple of questions. Am I compromising the site I bought by not sticking to the original images? If not, do I simply import these JPEGS in Windows | Library (of Flash MX 2004) with my own names for the images or should I
stay with the names they came with?

Secondly, why can't I see the original PSD images in Windows | Library? How does the Flash site I bought reference the images in the psd folder it came with if I cannot see them in the Library?

Many thanks.

Steve

I would imagine that the images for use in the site are jpgs somewhere in the content you received, and used in the flash library. I would then assume you are also given the psd files so that you can open them in photoshop, edit them, and save NEW jpgs to replace the ones you already have. Keeping the same names will mean the html pointing to the images doesn't need to be changed, or any that flash points to externally. You will probably need to reimport your newly saved images into the flash library though. But the golden rule is look after the master content - the psds - and don't lose those since it's those you want to edit. Then save them into jpgs for use in the site/flash and unless you need otherwise, keep the iamgenames the same.

Hello Leozack

Thank you for your message.

Yes, there are four folders and one of them contains four or five huge PSD files. I have copied these into Photoshop and saved them as JPEGS.

However, the (unhelpful) vendor says I do not need to touch these files and that I ought to do all my editing using Flash (not Photoshop) in the .FLA file.

What I have noticed, though, is that with the image files (as opposed to, say, the movie clips) I pull onto the stage from the library, they seem to be locked in some way. If I import an image onto the stage and click on it, 'Edit' in Flash's properties is greyed out.

What I would like to do, for instance, is I have four images across the stage on a larger black background image. I wish to substitute one or two of these images with my own. But when I try to Edit | Cut, this facility is not available.

Cheers again.

Without knowing what type of site it is and how it was designed to be edited I can't help much. The endor should tell you exactly how to do whatever it is you want to do, which is what you should've asked before buying really :p If you want to edit the images used in the site, then he's provided the photoshop masters for you to edit and then resave as jps for the net (remember not to ever overwrite your original masters or your edited masters, save to seperate jpgs for website use).
How to use them inside flash? If you can't edit the ones in use I gues you'll have to reimport the newly edited ones. But I confess I haven't had to use a package such as that and someone who has can probably tell you what you need to do. Else ask the vendor.

Hello Leozack

Thanks again for your message.

Yes, as I mentioned above, I have copied the PSD images into Photoshop and saved them as JPEGS.

I think I can tell from your reply that I am not going in the wrong direction; it's a case of experimenting and pushing the vendor to be more explanatory.

Thanks again.
