What are the opinions to flashbased menus vs. Javascript or Java applets? I want cross platform and some legacy support for browsers.. some being IE 4 as the oldest for now.. I also want Opera compability (5.0 up)

Right now I have javascript menus which are a bear to maintain and are problematic with Opera. I like the idea of flash but I'm not a programer by trade.. though I'm becoming more like one each day ;-)

Also, I've seen alot of sites that offer to create a flash menu by keying the various information.. but many have ads and crap embedded which I dont want. Ideas or places to go? I dont mind paying for a program that is reasonably priced if needed.

Finally, if I were to use flash menus, is there anyway to run flash Local to my server instead of pointing back to macromedia's web site like alot of the online menu systems I have seen do?

Thanks alot in advance

flashbased menus are easy to make and change. I dont know much about the javascript types since i only use simple menus or flash

as for the macromedia redirection I dont quite understand..it only redirects to Macromedia if someone needs the plugin

Rod-

Very cool site and tutorial. I will read it more closely once I get some coffee into the system here ;-)

Yeah, is a good site and a good magazine too. Has some good tutorials and articles and they also publish dedicated issues on photoshop, flash etc. and give away loads of free software. I got Poser 3 the other month. funkymonk B-)
