I have a curious problem with a Flash 2. The customer's phone lines are Centrex. When you receive a call from outside their office (and outside any of their Centrex group lines) the ringing on the norstar m7310 telephones is different than when you receive a call from one of their
own lines (I pick up one of their lines and call their main number)

When they receive a call from outside their office the ringing on the phones sounds like an intercom to intercom call (two short rings, then another two short rings)

When they recieve a call from within their office (I pick up one of their lines and call their main number) the ringing sounds normal, a long ring followed by another long ring.

The problem is not the sound of rings but the flash automated attendant answers calls differently. For calls outside their office the flash answers after two rings (or actually four short rings). FOr calls inside the office the flash answers calls after 4 long rings (correctly).

we need the flash to asnwer after 4 rings. I changed the rings to 5 and the flash will answer an outside call after 2 1/2 rings.

Do we need to reporgram the 6x16DS DR5 KSU for the centrex template, Is this a CO problem with ringing?

This may be a telco issue. I don't know if this problem just started, or has always been there. Test your lines at the d-mark and see if the ringing is coming in that way. I don't think it's a switch problem.

The 6/16 will faithfully pass CO ring cadence to the sets. I am not clear by this post as to what jsaad means when he says ring is 1 long if you call from within the office but two short if you call from without the office... Jsaad, could you clarify?

i believe he has incoming calls ring like intercom calls(2 short rings), but if he uses one of his lines to call into his office, it's one long ring. Is this correct Jsaad?

When you are using the Flash with Centrex or Centrex+ software, you must ensure you designate the VM DNs as NORSTAR ONLY.
I think you only get this prompt with Centrex software.
I personally have never started a 6X16 with Centrex template, but the book hints at that is what you need.

Galfaro,

that is exactly right. a call from one of their own lines to their main number works correctly, you get 1 long ring, pause, then another, pause, then another, pause then another, pause, then the flash answers.

a call from outside their office will give you 2 short rings, pause, two short rings, pause, flash answers.

the 2 short rings sound exactly like when you call intercom to intercom.

weird stuff, i've never seen a difference between templates so please advise!

I would start with Telco first and get them out of the loop. I am assuming this is an ongoing problem and should be easy to duplicate. Test your incoming lines at the D-mark and see if you are receiving the ring in as 2 short rings. Once Telco is out of it, you can move on to the programming.

Jsasd,
Centrex template may/may not solve the progblem as the ring cadence comes from the CO. If the CO can provide both ringing cadences, which they do, then they should be able to fixe your issue through programming.

JUST CONFIRMED IT IN THE LAB.
Do a startup with Centrex template. Then select NORSTAR ONLY on your VM DNs.
My test was with a StarTalk Mini, but I think the same will apply with the FLASH.
Learned something today. I had never started a 6X16 as Centrex before. Forgot that you could.
4 rings now equal 4 rings.
Stumbled across this in the Mini installation guide, but didn't see reference to it in the Flash install guide.
I used an ATA as input to my line port to get the double ring like CO is giving you.

OKAY! I checked with Verizon, they offer distinctive ring on what they call Inside / Outside calls. It is only configurable by the CO. I asked them to turn it off. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

If it does not, we can reprogram the KSU for centrex template.
