I have two 1720 routers with a VPN tunnel established using the private ip addresses connected to the FastEthernet adapters on each side of the internet cloud. I have a full T1 on one side and a 384k fractional T1 on the other side. Their is a W2K server on both sides with the PDC on the fractional T1 side. I am having intermittent problems using Net View \\servername on both sides with the biggest problem on the full T1 side.
When I do have a problem I most generally get a SEMAPHORE TIMEOUT PERIOD HAS EXPIRED or a SERVER SERVICES NOT STARTED. Most generally, if I press the up arrow and press the enter key right after the error it will go through. Then after an undetermined amount of time I will get the error again. I can almost always still ping the server while this error occurs.
I have been told by Cisco sales that the VPN module will correct the problem, while Cisco tech support tells me there is something else wrong. I had thought it might be a name resolution issue but after watching the network traffic using Network Monitor on both W2K servers I do not. I seem to be getting traffic between the two even when the Net View command fails.
I am using IOS 12.1 with the IP PLUS IPSEC 56 feature pack. I say another thread that suggested there is a bug in this version of the IOS. Can anyone confirm?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
