Hi, I am trying to correct red eye on a couple of photos for my companies web site. I have started but am looking for some addvice.

This is the technique I've started with:

1) Created new layer, made selection ~(with eliptical marquee tool), filled selection with varying colours.

2) Changed layer mode (?) to darken among others.

I can't seem to get the results I want (although I did manage to get wicked purple eye's on this one woman). How can i get more subltle colours as everting I've done so far results in quite bright eye's...

PS. I know this has come up before but can't find anything in a search and browsing through previous posts resulted in one technique that I didn't like very much.

Thank's

funky,

Have you tried using the dodge/burn tool ??

I have found that it is the best way to sort out this type of problem.

It usualy takes a few attempts using various brush sizes.

Another way is to find a section of the eye that isn't affected and use the clone tool.

Because any little error will be picked up by viewers straight away it is dificult to get perfect results.

I would tend to keep away from the elipse tool as this is too regular and looks odd.

Hope this helps

Thanks manic, don't recall ever using the dodge/burn tool. I shall give it a go.

As for the clone tool, the red eye is pretty much on the whole eye, I was going to post a second question asking if there was a way to determine the original colour of someone’s eye without any reference to it. I guess that may be stepping outside of PS's abilities though....

I have done a quick fix with the marquee tool but it's not perfect, I am thinking these pic's may be too small for anyone (but me) to notice though (that they are rough) but it will be good to find a decent fix to red eye. It is after all a recurring problem.

There is another post regarding this issue that let to outside links of great ways to do this. I dig it up for you. [deejay]

This is the thread: thread229-219578 however the link doesn't seem to work anymore. It was a great method, and it showed pics of what to do along the way. [deejay]

marquee just the red part of the eye.
Cntl U - for hue/saturation
adjust the hue to desired color
easy on the saturation
and I hardly ever use the lighten.

then zoom back out a little and blur with
about 50% pressure.

Dodge/Burn will only lighten/darken what is already
there.

Thanks all, I shall have a play with all these methods today and see how it goes.

First zoom the eye

Select "Quick" mask mode

Select the "Paintbrush" tool

Select an appropriately sized soft edged brush from the Brushes Palette

Paint the effected area of the eye. Do not overlap the areas of skin and unaffected parts of the eye

Return to "Standard" mode

Choose "Inverse" from the "Select" menu

Choose the "Sponge" tool from the Toolbox
set for 100% Pressure and Desaturate mode

Paint the selected area until the red disappears

Finally, choose "Deselect" from the "Select" menu

This desaturates the red and maintains the highlights of the eye... it is easier than it seems...

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Hi, all the time I've been using PS and the time's I've seen it here in the forums but:

how do I select "Quick" mask mode...? (-:

I selected the button at the bottom of the layers palate "Add a mask"? I couldn't paint on it though.

Also:

What colour should I have selected for the Paint Brush...?
