Aloha,

I have a form that I need to print (a purchase order form). It has the look and feel of a pre-printed form but I am actually drawing the lines as I create the form.

I have 'header' information, 'line item (detail)' information and 'footer' information. The header and footer info are in fixed spots on the page. the detail section is also fixed size. The problem is that if I only have a couple of detail records - how do I print the remainder of the detail section (all the lines that separate the fields - qty ordered, description, cost, etc)?

Hi,
I had the same dilema and solved it by placing vertical lines in the details section between the fields.
I used the "rectangle" in the tool bar, you can control it better. Ya have to kinda tweek the height to display without any space, but it looks good on my report.

Yeah that works. But let's say that the form can hold 20 line items and I only have 2 items to print. I need to have the forms lines go all the way to the bottom - to the start of the fixed footer. How do I do that?

hi spud,
OUCH!!! That is a hard one there has been a couple of other posts regarding the same problem, it involves some esoteric VB that I can't write. If I could just remember the date of those posts.....
I'll look and get back to you.
Jim

Thanks for the info. It almost helps. It still looks as if it won't work for me. Here's my example report (very rough):

Note that there are more rows available for more items but no data there. I need the lines to print regardless of data presence. Any ideas?

Again - thanks loads for your assistance.

Morning,
To put horizontal line in the report place a line (again I use the "Rectangle") in the details section either at the top of the txtboxes or at the bottom of the text boxes. Adjust the size to fit the width.
As for the vertical lines you need to adjust the size and position "exactly" use the "shift + arrow" keys to make bigger, smaller, wider, narrower and the "Ctl + arrow" keys to move up, dn, rt, lft. It took me several time opening and closing, moving and adjusting.

hI Spud,
I copied a couple of screen shots of my reports and will email them if you like. Let me know your email address and I will send them.

Why do the lines make your area stay the same size?

I have a problem trying to make my detail section always be one size (even if theres not enough info in it) and show blanks as well.

I was told to create a formula for each of the items I want to bring in like this:

if notisnull(db.field) then (db.field) else 0

and then use a counter to determine how many rows are coming in - set the details section to suppress based on the counter.

so if you only want say, 12 lines coming in, set details to suppress where counter > 12.

would this help you? also, can you explain why the lines are what helps you in yours?
