I recently bought a new PC running Vista. I installed MS/Office from a CD I used on my previous PC, which ran on XP/home. Now, whenever I launch Word (and I presume Excel, etc.), I get the nag screen that says "This is not a genuine version of Word". I've Googled for fixes, but they seem to be designed for the XP operating system, not VISTA. Can anyone suggest or point me to a fix that will work in VISTA. Incidentally, I had temporary success with one fix that had me change Load Behavior/Modify value in regEdit from 3 to 0, but it only worked for awhile. I suspect that one of my MS updates changed it back, but not sure.

Did the new PC come with any Office programs (trials) pre-installed?" No. I used a CD I used to install Office on my previous PC, and I don't really remember where that came from.

We know it worked on XP, but are you sure what's on the CD is genuine?

In addition.... Do you have a valid license & key for this cd? Is this a retail version of MS Office or is it an OEM?

If you don't have a valid/legal license, the best bet is to get a legal version.

I used a CD I used to install Office on my previous PC...

Unless the CD was a retail version and you uninstalled Office from the XP machine then you can not install MS Office on the Vista PC unless you have a different product key/license.

OEM versions of Office are non-transferable and Retail versions can only be installed on one machine at a time unless you have a multi-user license.

Hope this helps.

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 can be installed on up to 3 machines (with the one Product Key) for use in the one home. What version of Office is the old XP one?

Sounds like you could have had a volume licence.

Try putting the licence number into Google and see what response you get.
