Fitting 4 PDF pages to an A4 page

I am trying to create a PDF file from a Quark file in Acrobat 5.0 - only trouble is I'm trying to create a reduced version of the file. I actually need to reduce the pages so that the layout is that 4 A4 pages fit on to 1 A4 page in the PDF file.
I am not trying just to print the document this way but tp actually save it as a PDF in this layout.
I have tried options when printing in Acrobat Distiller from Quark but none of these seem to work and I'm not sure why. Do I need to copy the images and reduce them that way?

...are you on mac or windows? on mac this is certainly possible from the print setup dialogue...

I have done the same job for my US customer, he run it in Mac OSX, of course it also support windows and linux, beacuse it is in java, if you want to do it by yourself, just use itext, good luck.
