Hello all,
I think I read all the posts here on upgrading to 11, read some that makes it sound easy & some bad.
What I have is a system that's a 8.1(73), bootloader is at 1.33, PCS sticker says it's 11.
They have all 1416 phones & an analog Ext. Expansion unit for SLPs.

Sent all my info to my supplier, still waiting for him to get me the PLDS licenses.

Was hoping to do everything remotely late at night, since this is a 24/7 operation where the KSU is located.

Am I safe to go directly to the 11 without any other steps?
Looks like I'm right on the fence with the requirements, via the bootloader & system revision, but the PCS is the 11.

I installed this years ago & know it was installed at the 8.1(73). So there was never any other upgrades.

Thanks for all replies.

My workings for this
upgrade to 9.0 then 11.0

when you upgrade to 9.0 don't upload the system files and do a backup

when you upload to 11.0 backup and upload of the system files

If you have a 4 GB SD card and it is more than half full convince users to delete their messages a couple of days before you do the upgrade so that the housekeeping is actually deleting the files.
If that doesn't get you enough room you have to delete manually the embedded vm languages you don't need to make room.

Upload the license when the system is on 9.0 and the system will be operational until you do the second step.

Thanks for the fast responses.
I forgot about checking the size of the SD Card & went back on site to find out it's only a 4G with 53% used.

Westi, I then checked their Embedded voicemail mailboxes & found only one Ext. had 27 new messages.
The rest of the Exts. were at 0 new, old & saved. They're not using the voicemail to email option, so they must be really good at deleting their messages.

So should I try upgrading using the current SD Card or would I be better off getting a new 8G card?

I think I read where someone went this route (getting a different SD card & switching over to that)

Rather than me searching for that again, what's the best way go that route, if think that's the best?

Hoping not to sound to stupid about this, but I'm kind of afraid even doing this after reading some horror stories that's happened to others.

Thanks again

Get a new card.
Use Manager to format and recreate U-Law
Take a current configuration from the system, rename it config.cfg
Take the PLDS license file, rename it PLDSkey.xml
Upload both files to the System > Primary folder

Take a System Status snapshot. Copy the extensions screen to Excel.

Power down the control unit. Swap the card. Power back up. Wait 20 minutes biting your fingernails while the ping times come and go wildly. When the lights turn green, the heartbeat LEDs return, and the ping times are normal and consistent, log back in and confirm that everything looks good. Wait for phones to download new firmware and come back online.

Compare the phones that have come back online with the Excel and snapshot you took before the upgrade, make sure they are all there.

Test inbound, outbound, AA, VM, VM to Email, twinning, etc.

Thanks TouchToneTommy,

This is the way I was thinking you would say.

Like I said previously, I don't have the new license yet from our supplier (he was off for the holiday's) but if he already has the licenses configured for the existing SD Card is there a way to now convert them to the new SD Card that you recommend getting?

I would be purchasing the SD Card from him as well.

Thanks again

Rehosting the licenses to a new SD card is a trivial change in Avaya's PLDS system. Your vendor will be able to take care of that for you.

TouchToneTommy,

That's what I thought I read as well.
Finally got ahold of our supplier/vender & he is working on that for us.

Last question I hope, I read about if using VMPRO what to backup on that if you are upgrading that (that sounds like that's also going to happen soon for a different customer) but since this is an Embedded Voice Mail, will the backup of the configuration have the existing greetings included in that so no need to rerecord?

I'm thinking not, but could be wrong.

If not what files would I save for those & if need to rename, then where to reinstall to new SD Card?

Thanks so much for all the info, you have been a blessing & I'm starting to feel a little bit more confidant about this.

I think I figured out how to get greetings/messages switched over to new SD Card.
Please let me know if faster/easier way.

Shutdown existing SD Card from System Status & remove.
Take existing SD Card into my laptop, go to system>dynamic>lvmail & move to my desktop.
Place SD Card back in control unit.
New SD Card into my laptop, move each recording from desktop to the opened LVmail.

So to review the steps I do when I have the new SD Card;
1) when I have their current configuration, I'll save & rename to config.cfg to my downloads on my laptop.
2) when I get the new licenses, I'll save & rename to PLDSkey.xml to my downloads on my laptop.
3) with the new card in my laptop, upload 1 & 2 to system>primary, via by moving (copying & pasting) each file from my downloads to the SD Card.
4) when I have their current recordings on my laptop, I'll do the above move each recording to the opened LVmail folder.
5) switch out SD Card.
6) wait for the 1416 phones to come up
7) check System Status (same as before on Exts.)
8) test lines/vmail

Please update if missed anything, incorrect or better/faster way.

Thanks again

Yes, that's a good procedure to restore the LVMAIL contents

Personally, I call into the customer's system with my own extension of our IPO, and use Call Record to copy off the AA and General mailbox greetings. Using Voicemail to Email, I take the wav file, use Audacity to generate individual wav files, and then Manager to convert to .clp. I then upload these to the system and set the AAs to use the pre-recorded files.

Then tell your customer that their individual mailboxes will be wiped clear, and they will need to record new personal greetings. Pick up your messages and be ready to record new greetings when the upgrade is over.

Thanks for the confirmation TouchToneTommy.

I'm feeling more & more confident through your input.

Now I'm reading about Upgrading a different customer that has a 9.1.12 IPO & Voicemail Pro.
Through this I'll know what to do with the IPO, but still reading how to do the VMPRO.

If have any fast input about doing this I'm all ears, other wise I'm thinking of maybe just start a new thread.

Thanks so much again

I'd start a new thread since it's a different system you're asking about. However, consider the platform that Voicemail Pro is running on, 11.1 does offer Windows to run the service, so it may be best to stick with 11.0.
