Hi,

We are going to be sourcing data from an as400 system on MVS with flatfiles in RPG format (that is, if RPG is a type of format, could also be ISAM)

I am trying to figure out what is the easiest and quickest way to dump these flatfiles onto a UNIX server where we can format and load them wherever we want.

Are there programs out there 'free'ly available that will do this for me?

Any sites where I can find scripts for these?

Will I have to write DCL or COBOL?

Educate me, my mainframe geniuses.

Thanks.

If they are true flat files (meaning they have no field definitions in the file), you can always use FTP. If the files are native AS/400 files with the fields described with DDS or SQL, you would probably need to convert them before transferring them.

Look at the CPYTOIMPF (Copy to Import File) command on the AS/400.

Are the files S/36EE files (that is, are they all located in the library QS36F)?

If they're true flatfiles, I have several RPG programs to convert flatfiles into CSV's.
