Hello all,

HP printer is connected to a Win 98 SE computer. This printer prints a first page with few hearts for the first time after reboot. After the firt page everything is normal.

I checked the connector pin it looks good.

Any pointers?

sounds like bad driver. windows driver correctly resets printer at end of print job but doesn't correctly init it. Try new driver. As work around, you could create batch file that sends reset command to printer at startup. Info at HP support for this based on printer.

The heart symbol could indicate the parallel port(I ASSUME
that's what you are using) had garbage data placed on the port during the reboot.
AS the other poster suggested try a new driver.
Another possibility could be the type of parallel port(same caveat as above applies):SPP,EPP,ECP types.
