Hello;

I am creating a catalog, and want to know if there is a way to create a character or paragraph style so that the 1st character of each word in the paragraph is capatilized, while the rest of each work remains lower case.

Can anyone assist with this?

Set a character style that's all caps. Then, set a paragraph style that has a one line, one character drop cap that use the character style that's all caps. Worked for me.

Donna

Wouldn't then give me a small caps look??

No - just the first letter is capped, and since the Drop Cap on the para. style is only one line, it's the same height. The character style defines the first letter only since it is only applied to the drop cap.

...I Think Buz Is Really Asking If EVERY Word In The Paragraph Can Be Made Initial Caps...

Andrew

Something Like The Way I Am Typing Now?

Andrew

YES.... Just like what Andrew was typing!

There might be a plug in that creates initial caps for every word? I mean, essentially you're creating a nested style: a character style that is ALL CAPS, as a nested style up through the first character, then no nested style through the first space, then the nested character style again. If you only have like 10 words per paragraph, you could set that up. If you have more, you might see about a script or a plug in.

Good luck!

Oh - well just select all the text, and change case to Title Case.

Donna

Titling alternates (such as title case) are only available to fonts that have them built in...I've only ever seen them in OpenType fonts...and then only a few of the ones I've used had that option. Plus, depending on how things have been entered, choosing the alternates may give some funky results.

Ekwoman;

Thanks... I am trying your suggestion with nested styles... but i do not find the option of the 2nd step, to choose the first "space" do you mean the first non-braking space?

Thank you

It is not one of the items in the drop-down menu. Highlight the word that's currently there, then just key in a space (so you won't see anything). You can put whatever you want in there...not just the choices in the menu. It took me a long time to figure that one out when I first started. Good luck!

Ekwoman!

That is so great that you can type what you want in there! GREAT TIP.

I tried it... and still nothing.

Here is what it looks like in the paragraph style options,

Drop Caps and Nested Styles

Drop Caps
Lines Characters Character Styles
0 0 None

nested Styles
1st Letter cap(this is my all caps cahr. style) through 1 character
[none] through 1 space
1st Letter cap through 1 character.

Am I doing something wrong!

THANK you for ALL of your help too!

Did you type the word "space" or did you simply hit the spacebar? You want to actually hit the spacebar...so it looks like "[None] through 1 "

Does that make sense?

Ekwoman

I DID have it with the word, went in and changed it to the space bar hitting only... still did not work... so...

Thank you
