Hi, i'm still i bit new at this so forgive me if i might be a bit lost.

I recently got an old 9630 from someone and i wanted to activate the VPN setting in it like on my 9620c but i believe it's on old firmware that doesn't have any VPN options in it.
When i look in the phone it says the application file is ha96xxual1_20.bin.

I tried loading new files that i got from the avaya site that seems to be version 3.1.5, it includes the files 96xxupgrade.txt ,ha96xxua3_1_05_s and hb96xxua3_1_05_s as well as other language files.
So i put these files on my TFTP server and i see the phone connects and downloads the file however i see on the phone at the end it says invalid file and when the phone finishes booting it has the same old firmware..

Any ideas?
Thanks

1.2 is circa 2007 so ancient. You could try a multiple-step upgrade, i.e. 1.2 to 1.5, 1.5 to 2.0, 2.0 to 3.2.

Oops something went wrong..

Read this FAQ for activating VPN
Google for the IP Phone installation manual for IP Office to know how to setup IP telephony on IP Office and visit support.avaya.com for the latest firmware

Thanks for the replies.

I tried upgrading to 1.585 and it gives me the same error: invalid file.

I am using http cause my TFTP server is set to port 80

I just tried 1.2.1 and it gives me the same error.. is there anyway to force the phone to take the file?

http and tftp are two different protocols, download Avaya MVIPtel, install it, configure it and start it, then upgrade the phone

thanks intrigrant.

I downloaded it and installed it then i put the files under the data/http folder and started the service . i then set the ip address of the file server to be my computer running mviptel but it dosent seem to even dowload the files now.

Sorry i never used this program before . can you tell me if i'm doing it right?

Thanks

Did you manually edit the ini file, I always do. It is more clearly what services are started and which paths are used.
Do not forget the Windows Firewall which will block tftp requests by default.

ok i saw it was trying to get the files from the https instead of http so i moved the files to the https server and it works , the download happens but it still gives me invalid file when it tries to load any of the hb69xxua files no mater what version i try .
I tries 1.2.1 , 1.5 and 3.1.5

Start up the phone and when the message "Press * to program" appears press *
It will ask for a password which is CRAFT by default ( 22738 )
You get into some kind of menu and go to Signalling ( SIG ) and assure it is set to H.323
Reboot the phone from the menu

If it does not help then repeat the above procedure but now select the "CLEAR" option and confirm to clear the phone
It will restart and if it then stil not works the phone is useless for you.

yeah i triad all that already . i even tried putting it in SIP and trying to load the SIP firmware but nothing so i think this phone is shot

thanks anyways
