I have just checked my machine's firmware levels and have found the following -

The SYSTEM microcode is THREE updates out of date

The SERVICE PROCESSOR firmware is ONE update out of date

Do I need to apply all of those I have missed, or can I install the latest ones.

(For this particular system, there is one 'combined' update which will load both newest levels..)

I'd appreciate some guidance on this one..

Regards,

Roomer

Roomer,

You just go to the latest level from the IBM firmware site. The process is fairly painless just use the relevant command for you system in the README file i.e. update_flash.

I have done this so many times I cannot even count and have yet to have a problem. At least you are being pro-active rather than re-active which a lot of people do not do.....

Best of luck. PSD

Do you have to have some kind of user/pass to get these? I have a F50 that I would like to get up-to-date. Or do you guys have the URL of where I can go to get them?

PSD,

how long do the upgrades normally take. I have a opportunity during early evening, but the window is very tight...

Is this usually a long process ??

Roomer,

It takes just about 1-5 minutes longer than a normal reboot so for a H80 about 8-10 mins.

If you are going to do it ensure that you have run "sum" against the downloaded files and that they match the values in the html README file on the IBM website. After that you are away.

Best of luck. PSD

PSD,

I have run the 'sum' and all seems fine with the checksum figure on the website.

All seems ok to proceed, and I have scheduled the update for tomorrow evening.

Many thanks for your assistance..

Roomer,

Well all should be o.k. so best of luck. In fact it is so easy it is best to not let this on to your boss....put in a few extra hours of overtime. My philosophy is always make the job sound bigger and harder than it really is, I make more money that way anyway!!

Cheers
