firmware level for SL500 and LTO 5

While i am on the topic can someone confirm is this like the L series libraries where the # of slots is based on the hardware, and not license based? IE if I add a drive expansion I automatically get another 90 slots, and I do not have to put in a license key?
from what I heard the SL8500 takes the license approach.
