If I create all site pages in Fireworks and export each to Dreamweaver, will links remain in and to other pages? I guess outside of slicing well, what is Fireworks for or better at than say, photoshop to dreamweaver? Why include a tutorial showing linking and yet I am told the files would be bulky and slow loading? Am I being naive here?

It depends on how you optimise it, I make the gpx in firework, and slice them- set the optimisation on each slice individualy, and when I build the pages, I remove unnessary gpx- in places where the page color will suffice etc.unless I'm not adding lots of text I usualy rebuild the pages anyway in dreamweaver, Fireworks is good for layout- but then in reality you should build the page in dreamweaver to make the pages expandable etc. Sometimes, when my code just won't behave, I take it outside and make it listen to britney spears music, and when it comes back it's really well behaved. I wonder if it's suffering from post tramatic stress syndrome now..
