fireworks nav bar sub menu links display "X" on internet exp, safari

My nav bars work great, except that on internet explorer and Safari, those menu items that contain Sub menus have little "X"s or "?"s by them. Works fine on Mozilla Firefox though.

I feel like I need to rebuild the nav bars from scratch, but of course I dont want to. Any ideas of what might be causing the issue?
