I have a notebook with an inbuilt Firewire 1394 port, how can i connect it to my ethernet network (RJ45 Cat 5 cabling). Do i need to purchase a special adapter ?

I am running Windows XP home edition, any help would be greatfully appreciated

You need to have one computer on the network running XP and with BOTH Ethernet and a firewire port. Then you can create a firewire link between your laptop and the other computer which then acts as a network bridge to allow you to access the rest of the network.
Some things to bear in mind:
1. The firewire computers either need to be running XP (Home or Pro)or you would need extra software to enable the firewire network.
2. The firewire cables cannot be longer than 15ft.
