Hi,

Please forgive me if this is a naive question. I am trying to put together an NLE/multimedia system (I am thinking about a Dell Precision 330 Workstation Pentium 4 with Win 2000 pro and Pinnacle DV500/Premiere 6) and all the forums I have been on have mentioned IDE and SCSI hard drives. But today, someone told me that firewire hard drives are much better than SCSI - cheaper and less problematic. Is this true?

Where can I get more info re: firewire drives?

Fir wire is similar to USB. Its a port for external devices. Fire wire can operate at speeds of 100mbs,200mbs and 400mbs. Which makes it good for external HDDs. I would not use fire wire for my primary system drive. As for being cheaper and less problematic i dont think so. They are sturdy and strong yes. BUT being external it is easier to damage them (knock them down) SCSi is right now the best way to go. Though ATA100 EIDE drives are getting better in terms of speed. James Collins
