I have a Micronet Fantom external firewire hard drive that I am trying to attach to a Windows XP machine. Windows acknowledges when the drive is plugged in by making that little familiar sound that it makes when a device is plugged in and found. The drive shows up in device manager, but not in My Computer. The drive is new and unformatted. I am using an Abit NF7 motherboard/Athlon XP, and an ATI Radeon 9600 AIW video card, if any of that matters. I have tried running the new hardware wizard, to no avail. The Micronet site is of no help, and they have not answered my support request email. According to the literature, no drivers are needed and the drive should be plug and play. Suggestions?

Maybe check bios and make sure there is no setting that is off that should be on.
Then go to my computer, right click and click on manage and go to disk management and see if you can see the drive there. IF so then you can partition and format it.
Failing that:
If the drive can come out of the case, you could try setting the drive up as a slave in an ide setup and format it that way, NTFS with win xp.
