I want to thoroughly test my (Netfilter) firewall with as many techniques as possible. I was wondering if anybody knows any good security sites that will show some good (and popular) hacking techniques.

I use nmap and netcat, which I find to be excellent tools for auditing. I'd like to learn about more tools or techniques that can be used. I do have the book Hacking Exposed, which is an amazing reference, but I'll take any extra info I can get.

Thanks,

Adam

Get the newest versions of nessus and saint and run the battery of tests against your machines.
Nessus especially is very nice, modular, and extremely
flexible.

Thanks marsd, I'll give those a try.

I am trying to do the nessus test as well, however when I try to 'untar' the libnasl.gz file nothing happens...

This is the command I use:

tar zxvh libnasl-1.2.7.tar.gz

but nothing happens. Any ideas why?

never mind - sorry for being stupid !

of course it is tar zxvf (not h).

what does the h actually do?
