For a simple fire wall, you can use lokkit that comes with RH 7.3. If you need something a little more complex, you should read up on ipchains.

I'll beg to differ with RhythmAce on this one . . . ipchains is fine if you already know it, but most new developement is driven toward iptables/netfilter. I think it would be silly for a newbie to learn chains at this point.

There is a tutorials section about half way down with a lot of great stuff, you're sure to find something on your level.
