In my continued attempt to set up my home network, I am at the stage where I want to secure my network. For this, i choose to put up a firewall. My situation is as follows:
- I'm currently running IP Masquerading on my Redhat 8.0. To activate this, i've put a script in /etc/rc.d/ which i run in order to allow IP Masquerading. I got this script from Redhat 8.0 HOWTOs available online.
- Now i want to run a firewall, which allows incoming access to certain ports, etc. For this i use the Security Level Config in RH 8.0.
My problem is this: Everytime i activate my firewall, IP Masquerading is not allowed. It stop forwarding packets from my Windows XP to my RH 8.0 server. Only when i re-run the script in /etc/rc.d/ it allows IP Masq. I've already selected eth0 as a trusted device, however it still does not allow requests coming from my Windows XP when the firewall is up. Can anyone shed some light on this? Or maybe point me to a direction where there is some documentation on this? Much appreciated.
