Hi,

A company is asking me if they have dialup internet on one of the computers that is shared to everyone else on the network if a hacker can get through to there data on the server. If so, how do we stop it, and do we need a firewall. I was under the impression that since it was dialup it was remote access, therefore the chances of getting hacked were unlikely and also I know that cable and DSL is always on and you can get hacked that way. Anyone care to enlighten me?

once that computer "dails out" and gets connected, it recieves an IP address that can be tracked and used to "hack" into that computer (while connected) in return exposing the rest of the network. so, yes you need a firewall on that computer (software based) that would stop that kind of traffic.

i hope you understood me. let me know if that helped
