Hi all,
I just set up a 486 as a gateway/firewall with ip masquerading (ipchains) and everything works great, I get pings returned from every possible way of pinging, and telnet works when given an IP. Too bad the internet browsers don't work. Am I missing something here? Is there some DNS configuration required on the network machines? Any help however small may help. Thanks a bunch.

STUFF
Debian 2.2.18 - Intel 486SX 33MHz
eth0 = SMC WD
eth1 = SMC ULTRA

Cheers Chris

Were you able to browse before you enabled ip-chains?
are you sure you haven´t disabled port 80?

How does your ip-chains rules look like?

eth0=LAN and eth1=internet?

What does your dns-setting look like? on each card. /Sören

Thanks for replying, but I figured it out. I had simply not configured my windows machines to 'enable DNS' along with the appropriate gateway info, etc.. Maybe someone else will benefit from this.

Cheers & :)
Chris
