hi,

as an IT beginner can someone please help me.

I have a nokia firewall IP350 and I have been asked to find out whether it has checkpoint installed.

how do i do that?

the firewall is unplugged from everything, so now i want to connect it to a laptop running windows XP.

do i just connect a network cable between the firewall and laptop, or do i need any other cables etc.

what software do i then use?

thanks

Firewalls by their very nature are secured so even a crossover cable may not work. The best route is via the console on the Firewall. You will then need a login and password, without that you are getting nowhere!

If you get in then you can run cpstart, cpstop, cpconfig to check if Checkpoint is installed or just type cd /$FWDIR if this works then checkpoint has been on that enforcement module at some time.

Do you have any info on the box?
IP address?
Any username or passwords?

If not then the only start point is to log in via the console and start from scratch.
This will make licencing the box hard unless you have a Checkpoint contract.

If you want console in to the 350, type lynx this is the text based version of what you would see of the web ui. You'll need to login then tab until you see bball Manage Installed Packages <enter> this will give you a list of what's installed and what's running.

hope this helps

From the console, type fw ver. It its running on a 3.x version of IPSO (uname -a from the cli) you can also try LYNX (indicated above). This is no longer available on newer IPSO versions.
