I am trying to learn about VPN connections and continually find myself getting confused. Most recently I am confused about firewall compatibility with VPN.
Wouldn’t it be an accurate statement to say that all firewalls are compatible with VPN for a remote user (not branch office) using PPTP if the firewall can forward PPTP packets?
If that were the case, then why for example would the manufacturer of a firewall such as Watchguard advertise that 5 Mobile User Connections are available unless you upgrade? Are they offering some sort of proprietary software to be used with the firewall that would only support X number of users? If I forwarded traffic on port 1723 to a W2K VPN server on such a firewall, shouldn’t it I be able to host as many VPN connections as my VPN server is capable of hosting?
Thanks for the input.
