Hello,

I'm looking for suggestions for a friewall and mail server....we are currntly running a Linux box with some 3rd party software call "TeamInternet" the warranty runs out soon and we're looking to do somthing different. Our firewall and mailservers do not HAVE to be in the same box. I would like the mailserver to detect viruses at the server and do not let them in....also mail the sender that they have a virus. We have about 110 bodies but run about 330 different address..ie... jsmith@,johnsmith@johns@.

It would also be nice to have some type of reporting....internet useage and e-mail.

IS there anything out there like this?????

Thanks in advance!!

Jeff

If you are running Linux already why not use Sendmail for your email server and use the linux firewall with some IPChain rules.

Sendmail is almost infinitly customizable so I am sure you will be able to find some sort of Anti Virus software for it. If not install a Proxy server with the Anti-virus software. The proxy server could also do some of the reporting features you are looking for. Squid is a decent(and I believe free) proxy server.

Hope this helps at least a little.

Sendmail is great. FreeBSD instead of Linux as it has less holes. IPChains needs someone who really understands IP to configure it or it'll be more full of holes than Windows.

Squid is ok if you get the reporting right, otherwise just use it as a proxy rather than a reporting funnel.

Agreed Zelandakh. All of the solutions I outlined above are not for the faint hearted, but they all work well at their given task.
