Firefox 1

There are many, many pros, and very few cons IMO.

Pros:
- Tabbed Browsing
- Plugins
- Popup Blocker built-in
- Ad blocker (via plugin)
- Security Patches out within a very short period of time. There was one found and within 24 hours they had a patch... I believe MS still hasn't fixed all the holes.
- Not integrated into the OS.
- Open Source
- Smaller footprint, the download is under 5 MB.

Cons:
- Not all websites work in Firefox. Some code specifically to IE only. If I can't use the website, they don't get my money. But in some case you may have to switch if it something that you use for work (ie MS Sharepoint).
- Not integrated into the OS (for some people this is a problem).
- Open Source (some people don't like it)

There are about 100 "offical" extentions right now, and many others floating around right now. The development team is devoted to supporting the W3C standards, and to maintain security. If this browser doesn't do something for you, you can either find an extention that does it or you can make one (if you have the know how).

See my progress to converting to linux.

I've been using Mozilla, the big brother of FireFox, for some time. Seems to be very stable. I agrees with the comments by iSeriesCodePoet.

There's no place like 127.0.0.1.
There's no place like 127.0.0.1.

I recently switched to Firefox and no problems. I immediately noticed less junk found when I run either AdAware or Spybot.

I'm dumping OE now, also. Does anyone know if either Pegasus or Eudora is supposed to be better (as far as malware)

TIA,
Melissa

If you want to stay on the Mozilla front, try Thunderbird, which is Mozilla's stand-alone mail client. I have been using it for a couple of months with no problem.

I have been using Thunderbird for almost a year now. The spam filters aren't the greatest, but it is very stable, IMO, a very good mail program.

It get better in 0.8, they are adding an RSS parser to it. I haven't downloaded the nightly to see how it works yet.

I did install it last night, but didn't really have time to look at it much. Does it have the ability to manage separate accounts? I have five different addresses (same ISP), and I will miss being able to switch back and forth easily like I did with OE's identities....

Yes, if you go into accounts (I forgot the exact menu option), you can add as many accounts as you want. Now with the new 0.8, they are adding the ability to put mail into one inbox. In the current versions, each account has it's own inbox.

Thanks codepoet. I will look into that (not sure which version I d/led, but think it's most recent). I would like to keep them seperate, though. I make gel candles (was going to sell), so one account is strictly for that-don't want it with my other e-mail.

You probably have 0.7.2. That is the latest stable version. 0.8 isn't out and I don't recall when they expected it out either.

Thanks again. I should have time tonight to play around with it. Going by the Mozilla browser, I doubt I'll have a problem. I've been using Firefox about two weeks now, and the only "complaint" is that I didn't dump IE sooner!

I've been using the Eudora email client (on Windows) for several years now with no problems at all.
There are occasional times when HTML email doesn't render at all (because I've switched off HTML rendering) but this is mostly spam.
Eudora has a forum on this site here: Forum13.

I have written an FAQ in that forum on how to lock down Eudora security, because it does require Internet explorer to do its HTML rendering for HTML email.

Thanks Jrbarnett. I glanced at the FAQ here, but will be able to read it closely at home. Right now, I have OE, Pegasus, Eudora and Thunderbird on my PC! Hopefully I can get to really looking into the last 3 so I can just have one (NOT OE).

Thanks again

A couple of issues (sorry petermeachem) with Mozilla:

Best to be aware.

That was back in may, I believe they have rectified that problem.

Unix IS user friendly... It's just selective about who its friends are.
