Is it just me or does anyone else find Firefox noticebly slower to load web pages than IE?

I'm new to Firefox (having made the switch the other week due to security issues with IE) so the load speed is quite obvious to me.

Any thoughts?

There are many pages on how to speed up Firefox rendering. Use Google to search for "speeding up firefox rendering". I found loads.

This is one such excerpt from the Mozilla website:

By default, Firefox doesn't try to render a web page for 250 milliseconds while it's waiting for data. If you add the code below to your user.js file, Firefox immediately starts to display the page, even without complete data. The drawback, especially on slower machines, is that the total time to display the page will be longer.

Code:
// Last value in milliseconds (default is 250)
user_pref("nglayout.initialpaint.delay", 0);

Hope this helps,
Dan

Hi

I've checked the mozilla forum and indeed there are a few solutions in there. The best was to type 'about:config' in the address bar, scroll down to 'network.http.pipelining' and 'network.http.pipelining.maxrequests' and change these to 'true' and '8' respectively. Worked a treat.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Dan.

On my old laptop, FireFox responds slowly. For example, if I were using FireFox to type this message instead of IE, each letter would appear after a second (or two) delay!

Any ideas on how that might be improved?
