I'm running XP Home SP2. I was using FF 1.07 b4 the javascript console quit working without notice. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why it was not reporting anything... even when I knew errors existed by checking another PC the same way. So I completely removed FF (even the folder in Documents and Settings>Application data) & reinstalled 1.07... problem still existed. Once again, I completely removed FF and installed 1.06... the problem was still there. I did try a reboot after each removal just to be safe. Any thoughts/experience would greatly be appreciated!
I did post my question in the Firefox forum at:

However, I'm yet to get a response. So, I thought I would post here and see if anyone had any thoughts on why this may be occuring.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/experience!

Dan,
Thanks for responding! Sorry for not being more specific...
The javascript console doesn't close... it just refuses to report anything at all (errors, warnings, etc.). This occurs on any given page (both local & external pages) on many different sites.

I'm up for any ideas at this point!

I'm sure there are errors b/c I can see the error in the javascript console in Opera & on other workstations with FF installed.

I've even installed the JS Console Filer 0.2 from the extensions download page... and still nothing.

Can you post a URL of one of the web pages that breaks in other versions of Firefox but not yours?

If we could posisbly reproduce the problem ourselves, we might have a better chance of solving it.

Dan

Some things to look into :-

- Have you disabled JavaScript?

- Is Firefox starting up in Safe mode (where no extensions are loaded)

- Do you have any other plugins or extensions that may have an effect on JavaScript or the console (such as NoScript, for example)?

If nothing else works, maybe give this a bash:

I've no idea what it actually does for you, but you never know!

Hope this helps,
Dan

Dan,
Thanks again for all your efforts!
I haven't disabled javascript. Firefox is not starting in safe mode (I have other extensions working fine). No other plugins or extensions have any conflicts that could cause my problem. I know this b/c when I did 3 + reinstalls of FF, no extensions were installed and the problem still existed. I did download & install the extension you suggested... and still no luck! I did find an extension that could help... but is alot more difficult to understand:

I saw your post about the safari debugger, I really wish safari worked with different platforms. I'm tempted to install vmware with a linux os to just have my javascript console back... but I think that may be just as much work as understanding the debugger extension I mentioned earlier!

I am at a total loss! I feel like I'm overlooking the obvious! Don't ask me why, but I've even tried to get this working in safe mode on xp... to see if I have any conflicting programs... but no luck.

Again, thanks for all your thoughts/efforts! Please, keep em' coming!

Just a thought for trying something. Do you have any program for removing old registry keys? A program such as registry mechanic or something of the nature. If so try using that and reinstalling things or uninstalling then running it. Dont know if this would help much but I figured id put in my 2 cents and see if I could help.

One other thing I forgot to mention, if you use a program of that nature be sure to let it make a back up or make one yourself before using it in case you run into any problems.

electronicsfreak, great idea... but it didn't help at all. I've filed a bug report... so lets hope one of the developers has an idea!
