I have a small problem with firefox :

When I select several cells in a table with click-and-drag while holding the ctrl-key down, Firefox highlights the selected cells by placing a dark blue border around them. Is there any way of disabeling this feature ? My table already has border, cellpadding and cellspacing set to 0 but this won't help.

I wouldn't think so, but even if it is, that would be a browser issue rather than a html related problem. HTML shouldn't be used to cater to specific browsers' quirks.

Apparently, this is the way that Firefox has chosen to do its "select table cell" action (Ctrl + Click).

You could try to override it by using JavaScript to return false and cancelling bubbling if you detect the Ctrl key pressed onclick... although many people would say that you should leave browser functionality alone.

Hope this helps,
Dan
