Hi All,
I am looking for some information and thought this was the place to ask about this. First off let me state I am a network admin and my knowledge of SQL and databases in general is the operation of the servers and such.
My problem is this. I have a Firebird custom application that contains about 22000 records with all sorts of stored procedures and things that are vital to my business operation and the vendor who created the app has fired his programmer and the business is crumbling around him. the programmer has been hogtied with a non compete agreement by the vendor and refuses to help. I have no source code and I need to move this application to another platform where we can continue to operate. My normal database of preference is MSSQL 2000 and I need to somehow get this app running under MSSQL. am I at the mercy of the vendor or can a programmer extract my data and somehow recreate the functionality I have in Firebird now?
I know this is a very general question but I am looking for general information and where to start. I can see all the tables but I have no information on how they link or interact.

To start process you might have to find some answers from your vendor.
What type of database is used currently?
Is the application comply with SQL 2000?
You refering to Stored Procedures, so you might want to verfiy SP and APP codes compatibality.
Just a data conversion wont be an isseu, but you might want to plan for a test procedure, such as configuration, functionality, reports etc. This will get you a start. After you gatherd this much info we can start analysing a bet method to maigate data and app.
