Why is a sun fire 280R drastically cheaper than a Sun Enterprise 220R even though the specs for the Fire are better than the E220R?

Anyone worked with these Fire servers before?

Thanks for the input.

The pricing on all the UltraSrarc III processor machines is very good. I think Sun is using the new range to really push sales. Great if you are in the market to buy a system. As far as performance goes, it depends on what you are using the Server for.
Some applications use multiple processors very well and in that case 2 x UltraSparcII may out perform 1 x UltraSparc III . In general though the faster UltraSparc III machines should be netter value. We have a 280R (single processor 750MHZ ) and it performs as well or better than our 2 x UltraSparc II 300MHZ machine.

Cool,

Thanks for the input. We are going to be purchasing two of them for development. One will be dedicated as an Apache server, the other will be a Oracle DB server. I've never dealt with dual processors before so I am looking forward to it. Any advice beforehand?

Thanks in advance,

Josh
