I have an employee db which allows the insertion of an ole picture; however some users have choosen to insert very large pictures into a db record expanding the field for every record and thus expanding the database size dramatically with changes to only one record. Is there a way to find out the size of an OLE Object before updating the record? Maybe the size of the record? Something so I can prevent this?

Unless you have Access 2007 your database will bloat. It takes a lot of overhead to put in an OLE object much more than the size of the object. A one meg picture may bloat the database by three or more megs. The normal solution prior to 2007 was to save the pictures in a folder and then load them on the forms on current event. Works well with a single form view, but not on a continous form. I think there are some good faqs on how to do this. I got some code if not

I have exactly that problem, I need to show the Pics in a continuous form and I have not found a way to do it. I only need this for the emp database. I use path pics for everything else. I did write my own continuous form but it was a little combursome and slow. I am not worried about bloating in this case. Does anyone know a way of detecting the size (or something else I can use) of an OLE object using vb code. (btw - thanks for the replies)
