Hello,

I am new to the world of laod testing tools. We are currently using LoadRunner to test capacity of web apps, but I need a (good) tool taht will allow me to test fat client applications. I am open to other products, vendors; what ever it takes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and effort.

Hey MiGreen,

Butterfingers here. I am in a similar situation. I am in a similar situation only I will also need a tool that handles web testing well.

I am in the middle of evaluating some products, but not finished.

Would you mind sharing what you have seen since June?

Cheers,
Dr.ButterFingers

Dr.ButterFingers,

Sorry for the long wait on the reply.

I found that the two tools with the best options and support packages are from Mercury and Compuware. We are using products from both companies now, although we ultimately decided to use the Mercury LoadRunner product for load testing.

I perform testing on a different application/platform about every two weeks; if the application is a web product or if it is a fat client product with a development staff to include LoadRunner "hooks" everything goes just fine. Otherwise I end up coming up with a unique solution to test. This means that I end up writing something special either to interface with LoadRunner through a web component or I create my own framework applications to test transaction through put and monitor things the old fashion way.

LoadRunner is excellent for load testing web sites, if that is your primary, with .NET apps being your secondary, you will be okay (as long as you can afford all of the plug-in's)!

If you have any more questions, please fell free to ask, I will help any way I can.
