I have the ip address to a hacker who is DOSing my server. Is there a way to use the IP to find out more info on my perp.

the best chance you have to identify the source is to do a trace while the person is DOSing your server.

any other time (because of DHCP) someone else may be assigned the IP address you currently hold and you would be barking up the wrong tree.

or turn it over to the Abuse section of the ISP that holds that IP block along with the times of the DOSing and have them close that account.

Don't waste a lot of time, do like eyec said, turn it over to the isp that holds the block. It's there job to take care of this stuff. Do an trace route and find out who holds it, or go to and that will help find them. Good luck.
