I have a customer that wants order a specific phone number, however the main local providers here all say that they dont own that number. I thought I had a web site at one time that you could type in the telephone number and see who owns it (carrier) any suggestions? Remember we dont have the number yet so we cant test from it. And when you call it now it DOES say the number has been disconnected or no longer in service. Any help would be great.

Thanks Hawks!

Many years ago, I found a site that would allow me to input an area code, and see all of the prefixes, the town it was situated in, and the carrier.

Clicking on your first link, I then found this:

We are thinking of moving to a new town, and it is a great way to find out which prefix belongs to a specific carrier, if we want to try to create a "vanity" number... :)

One point of information to keep in mind is, even though those sites will show the NXX code holder, the individual number may be ported (LNP) to another provider from a previous customer that may have disconnected service. The numbers are suppose to be returned to the NXX code holder when the ported provider's customer disconnects but that does not always happen.

So far I am not aware of any sites that will identify whether a number is being ported (LNP) or not and/or the ported provider.

Hope this helps!

Thanks all , we finally figured it out, yeah I know what you mean about the LPN the numbers are so partitioned now, if it isn't live where your at then it's like pulling teeth to find the LPN.
