Hi,

I am a newbie - I inherited a Mitel SX2000-Light system from a past Sys Admin.

I have been trying to search fo rnew PLIDS by using teh following commands amnd looking for "unassigned" or "out of service" status:

locate all free plid dniline
locate plid 4 1
stat plid 4 1
test plid 4 1

The only PLID that is left lists this info in DNI circuit Assignment:

4 ? 1 ? 11 ? 11 ?DNI Line? Superset 3DN|DS1101

On the patch panel - there is not cross conenct punched down for thsi PLID.

What is the "DS1101" on CHANNEL #2 and can I remove the non-existent Superset 3DN on channel #1 and use the PLID for a new phone?

More info from locate:

Card Type : DNI Line
Circuit Location : 4 1 11 11 1
LOCATE: The circuit is not assigned.

Card Type : DNI Line
Circuit Location : 4 1 11 11 2
Extension : 5389
Data line supports ADL
Associated Circuit Location : 4 1 11 13 1
Associated Extension : 5858

Please help!
Thank-you.

ds1101 is an older model of the dataset. it is used for many things such as PMS integration or call accounting systems or hooking up a printer to it. basically bring the RS-232 connection (or is it parallel i can't remember) anywhere there is an phone line or ext programmed as such. as for the rest haha i don't even know what a PLID is. I'm a sx200icp user. sorry

There is a Dataset (like a modem, but not dialup) programmed against the 2nd half of that PLID.

Each PLID of a DNIC card has two channels.

Telephones can only be programmed against the 1st channel of each PLID.

The 2nd channel is for use with accessories and adjunct devices, such as PKM modules, datasets and etc.

It is very possible that this Dataset is there for a reason, such as collection of SMDR data or ACD (call center) data.
To find out, go into the System Port Assignment form and see if you see that PLID assigned to any device (like a LPR device) It might say something like LPR4
Then go to the Application Logical Port Assignment form and match up that LPR number with whatever application is assigned to it.
Now that you see what it's for you can decide if it's available to take out.
Since as you say there's no crossc-connect wire or plug in the corresponding patch panel then likely it's available, but check first.

Hi MitelInMyBlood,

Ok, so if it ends up this cross-connect is indeed empty I couild use it.
But, it is my last DNI line!
We are setting up new users w/ digital phones that require DNI lines not "On Premises" lines much anymore.

So, there are some cross-connects that are empt on the patch panel that are OPS lines and supposedly "un-assigned" but I need to convert them to "DNI lines.
Can I do this?
Here is one example:

Card Type : On Premises Line
Circuit Location : 4 1 7 13
LOCATE: The circuit is not assigned.

Location | Device | State | Owner | ID |Status
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
4 1 7 13 | On Premises Line | Unassigned | | |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank-you for the quick repsonse.
Can you help me further?

OK lets start with a system inventory of what you have and where there might be some spare holes.

How many peripheral nodes (square boxes) do you have? The 1st one of course is the Main Control, but we'll start there so we can figure out what the architecture is.
Use this command CONFIG LONG 1 I'm wanting to find out how many main controllers you have (1 or 2).

Then give the same command to each other peripheral node, thusly CONFIG LONG 2 and then CONFIG LONG 3, etc.
This command will tell you what kind of circuit card is in each slot. We're only interested in slots 1~12

What we're looking for here is an EMPTY SLOT somewhere between the 1st and 12th card slot. If there are any then aAdditional DNIC cards can be possibly installed in these empty slots.

Something else to try is the STATE command so we can see if there's any abandoned ports (ports where there's a station assigned but disconnected and therefore not in use.
Give the command to any slot you found above that has a DNIC line card (MC330) in it, for example if config long told us we have a MC330 card at slot 2-1-1 then use the command ST 2 1 1 to look for any ports that are OUT OF SERVICE, but remembering what I told you earlier that there are actually 2 channels on each port and we can only use the 1st one for a phone.

Use the ST command on all of the DNIC card slots to see which ones are OUT OF SERVICE. Those can be recovered and reused.

Before we can think about possibly adding DNIC line cards we next need to figure out what your DIMENSIONS are (next installment)

In order to be able to use the slot 4-1-7-13 we would first have to clear off everything that was assigned to 4-1-7-1, 4-1-7-2, 4-1-7-3, etc all the way thru 4-1-7-16.
All 16 ports would have to show 'unassigned'

Once the entire card is unassigned we then go into the System Config (SYS C) form and delete the MC320 ONS LINE card at 4-1-17 and pull the card out and replace it with a MC330 DNI Line Card and of course program it as such in the SYS C form.

Saying it is oftentimes a lot easier than actually doing it, because of all the "hooks" and gotchas in between.
ONS line cards are usually pretty easy to get out of the system, but if there are any call pickup groups assigned you'll have to clear those first.
Ditto this if any of the numbers appear in the call reroute first or second or "always" assignment form.
You can wind up chasing your tail sometimes trying to get a card out.

If you have several ONS line cards with several empty slots on each one, you can aggregate these together and move some lines over to clear up a card.
A handy command for this is the MOV SWAP command. To use it you would first need to program up some "dummy" numbers on the vacant PLID.
I sometimes use 7-digit numbers for this purpose, and make the number relative to the one I'm moving.
I.E. if you need to move ext 4521 I'll find a vacant PLID on another card and assign the number 7704521 to it. Then I can use the command MOV SW 4521 W 7704521 - you can use this same idea to clear a whole card and get your users moved.
Then go back into the SINGLE LINE assignemnt form and delete all the 770xxxx numbers.
It's a means to an end.

By the way, spose we should ask this, do you have any spare MC330 DNI line cards on hand?
If not, a credit card and a toll-free call can rectify that pretty easily.
Just trying to think ahead here.

TAKING INVENTORY

Open up a Customer Data Entry (CDE) session and READ (you cannot edit) the Dimensions & Features Display form.
Scroll down, what we're looking for here is the Feature Resource Dimensioning number and the Traffic Level (not the HCI traffic level).

Then continue scrolling down towards the bottom where it displays what you have available (left column) and how many you've used (right column).
What does it say for the number of Multiline Sets (both numbers, available and used)?

OK, now exit this form back to the menu list of forms, then once again READ the CAB A form ***DO NOT EDIT!!!*** - here in the Cabinet Assignment form look in the 4th column from the left and tell me how many FD PER it shows in that column. Also what are the Cabinet Numbers assigned to the FD PERs (5th column).

Now exit out of the CDE session back to the Maintenance Screen and issue the command SYS TOT
What does this screen say for the Total Stations, On Premesis Stations and DNI Stations?

Finally, from the Maintenance Screen enter the command WH and tell us what it says on the bottom line where it says "Operating with ....." - that will tell us what software you have.

I'm just trying to get a baseline here from where to start.

Hi MitelInMyBlood,

Sorry for he late response.
I also have to maintain multiple Linux & Windows servers and desktops users - today a co-worker is out of the office so I am doing double-time!
We are also performing an upgrade shortly.
I apologize for not getting the info you asked for yet.
I will send you the info on Mon Jan 19th.
Thanks again for all the great detail in your posts!!!

Talk to you soon.
