Can you find out the physical hardware address of a Spcific HP Printer that is already set up in SCO 5.0.5 with out having to go the physical printer??

johnsef

you can probably pick it up with an snmp browser, or a perl script if you need to use the value in a shell script or something Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

could you not just ping the IP address and then grep out the device from the arp cache?

# ping ptr1.somewhere.com
# arp -a | grep ptr1.somewhere.com

You can [tt]nmap[/tt] your network, too.
I hope it works...
Unix was made by and for smart people.

How to get the mac address of a host except running a system command "arp"? Besides, I want to get my host's mac address which is even not in "arp" cache. Thx.
