Hi

Is it possible to find a file from a file index or file number. I have run CHKDSK yielding a problem with a file number. I would like to find out what file this is so i can delete it.

Cheers

Run chkdsk /r from Recovery Console.
It will ask if you want to save the corrupted file fragments, say no.

If they exist in your listing of c:\ just delete them.

The index numbers you see are of little help. Either the chkdsk /r operation can repair the file or it is removed and the numbered fragment entries appear. Just delete them.
