Hello,

Does anybody have an easier way to find the area of a 2d object faster than AutoCAD’s area command?

Here is what I am trying to do if it helps:

I haven drawn up a large piece of steel plate. It contains many holes, slots, etc…. I am trying to find the area of this piece of steel after all the holes are cut. I’m hoping somebody knows of a lisp or a faster way…….If I have to do it by hand it will take weeks!

Thanks in advance for your help,

Matt

The area command allows you to sum areas of objects you select, one at a time. Start AREA, add mode, select outer object, return, subtract mode, select holes one at a time. If you have a lot, to speed this up, there are free lisp routines to sum area of selected objects. In one selection you could sum all your hole object areas. Let me know if you can't find one, I couldn't put my finger on one at the moment.

If somebody has a link to a lisp...that would be great, I am having a hard time finding one.

Thanks, Again
Matt

Hi Matt,

Another option is to convert your steel plate drawing, holes and all to a region. Then use the subtract command, select the "holes" in your plate. Then when you use the area command, it will automatically subtract the holes.
