Finding a way to play Scorched3d :)

Hi folks,

I am staying at a hotel that provides free wireless internet access. I thought I'd play some Scorched3d while I have absolutely nothing better to do, but to my dismay, my wireless connection appears to be blocking UDP packets, as I can play WoW just fine (TCP-based) but the UDP-based Scorched3d won't even allow me to get a list of servers. I've read a few articles here and there on Google, but nothing proved useful enough to solve my problem.

On the plus side, I *CAN* connect to my desktop at home with full control, so is there a way to use it as a tunneler of sorts? That is, can I direct my laptop's traffic through my desktop, and then through the Scorched servers, back to my desktop and finally to my laptop? Is there a better way to do this? Any ideas at all?

Any help is MUCH appreciated, as you are helping to cure my boredom ;\

Not really---the connection will be slow, with all the traffic just to VPN to home, or RDC, however you do it. You can hack into the hotel router and enable all UDP traffic, or if they go through a server, to allow all UDP ports through the firewall...been there, done that (OFF the record!).

Hi Burt!

I actually thought about that, so I did some research and found that they are using LodgeNet's StayOnline wireless service, and the GuestPass Director:

I think I found the router's IP, but I get an error from their Squid server.

Soooo.. can I convince you to tell me (OFF the record!) how I might get into the router so I can enable UDP traffic :) I'll give you $20 worth of Burt's Bees products... :D

You could ask hotel management to allow the ports you need---tell them it is to connect to Yahoo's voice server for instant messaging, so you can keep in contact with your dying grandmother. It worked for me. That's called social engineering.
